1.2 million pounds – that’s how much the operators of Kyma invested to transform the former pub in Waterloo into a modern wine bar and tapas restaurant. In February 2025, the new catering location on the outskirts of Liverpool opened its doors. Greater Than Security Ltd was responsible for the lighting and audio planning and installation, equipping Kyma with a complete package from LD Systems and various Cameo lighting solutions. Kyma can seat up to 60 guests, with an additional 30 seats on the outdoor terrace. In addition to the normal catering service with background music, Kyma also has a DJ booth for lounge and party use at the weekend. “The client wanted something simple to use and flexible enough to work with different room setups,” explains Wael Hassan from Greater Than Security. “QUESTRA is the ideal platform for us, as it enables intuitive and centralised control and can be operated by employees without any prior technical knowledge.” Wael Hassan, Greater Than Security The Greater Than Security team relies on LD Systems DQOR 8 and DQOR 5 2-way installation loudspeakers for the sound system in the indoor and outdoor catering areas. Light is more than just brightness. It shapes spaces, attracts attention, and creates atmosphere. This third part of our series is all about the tools you can use to sculpt light in a targeted way: gobos, shutter blades, and irises. How can clear edges be set to precisely define stage boundaries? Which gobos are suitable for razor-sharp projections and which ones for atmospheric effects? And how can you flexibly control the light cone with an iris? We will provide you with practical tips for the professional use of these lighting tools – whether for theatre, events, or other lighting tasks. Imaging The imaging plane with its functions such as the gobo, shutter blade, or iris is the key component of a profile spotlight. Its quality and potential uses are shown here. The disadvantage with previous light sources such as halogen or discharge lamps was that they were placed in a reflector system with a base. This is often associated with differences in brightness caused by base shading; the filament arrangement in the case of halogen lamps; and manufacturing tolerances in the alignment of the optical system, which can frequently be remedied through adjustment options. 13 million followers on YouTube, 17 million on Twitch – Ibai Llanos is one of Spain’s biggest streamers and was named one of the most influential Spaniards in the world by Forbes magazine in 2021. In the same year, the 30-year-old began hosting the event series ‘La Velada del Año’, a highly successful annual amateur boxing event with internet streamers and other celebrities that takes place in the country’s largest sports stadiums. Even the announcement of the participants in the historic Teatre Victoria in Barcelona became a major event. We spoke to lighting designer and cinematographer Toni Llobet about the staging and his use of Cameo lights. Toni, please tell us something about how you got involved in this project. Toni Llobet: A few years ago, Ibai Llanos’ production team contacted me, shortly after the pandemic. Since then, we have worked together on various projects that are very different from each other, but always with that touch of fun and challenge that makes them special. Ibai has that gift to invent events, programmes and shows with very unique formats. In this case they called me to be in charge of the lighting design, the operation of the show, and for 13 million followers on YouTube, 17 million on Twitch – Ibai Llanos is one of... 13 million followers on YouTube, 17 million on Twitch – Ibai Llanos is one of Spain’s biggest... 13 million followers on YouTube, 17 million on Twitch – Ibai Llanos is one of Spain’s biggest streamers and was named one of the most influential Spaniards in the world by Forbes...

Whether it is a theatre stage, concert arena, or museum, the quality of the light projection depends on selecting the right optics. In this second part of our series, we will take a deep dive into the world of tube technologies: what are the advantages and disadvantages of interchangeable tubes compared to zoom tubes? When is a universal zoom the best choice? And how do optical aberrations affect the quality of light? This post is intended for lighting technicians, designers, and operators who want to deepen their knowledge of lens systems and use their spotlights even more effectively to create impressive lighting effects in stage lighting. We will highlight practical application tips and provide valuable decision-making aids for the optimum use of profile spotlights – whether in theatres, city halls, or on large stages. Tube As mentioned in the previous post, a lens tube with an adjustable lens is required to project the imaging plane. This is frequently achieved by sliding a tube, which holds the lens, within a tube holder. It is thus reasonable to assume that the tube can be quickly swapped for others with different focal lengths or beam angles. In other words, an interchangeable tube system, Whether it is a theatre stage, concert arena, or museum, the quality of the light projection...
