In just four decades, the “Fête de la Musique” has become a global phenomenon: originating in France in 1981, the 21st of June is now considered a day of music in hundreds of cities worldwide, when musicians and artists of all kinds perform in public free of charge. Concerts were also held that day in the garden of the newly renovated Chateau Le Nessay in Brittany, which were also reported on by French television, among others. The French integrator and event technology service provider VBS was responsible for the sound and lighting – and relied on the MAILA Modular All-Round Intelligent Line Array from LD Systems, among others. “The end customer wanted a sound system that was visually discreet but still met the highest quality standards,” explains VBS Managing Director Vincent Bestin. “The MAILA already convinced us during the first demos with its compactness, low weight and simple setup. Moreover, thanks to the modular concept, we can design the sound as the situation requires.” Le Nessay For the open-air sound reinforcement in the garden area of Le Nessay, VBS used its new LD Systems MAILA system with six flown MAILA SAT Array Satellites and one MAILA SPA power amplifier module In just four decades, the “Fête de la Musique” has become a global phenomenon:... Every year, the Slovenian TV show “Frišno” chooses the song of the year. The production is focused on the artists together with a big band, which accompanies each performance live. To further enhance the live atmosphere, the set design consists entirely of LED surfaces and numerous moving lights, which lighting designer Žan Pernat uses flexibly to suit every artist and every style of music. Since 2023, the AZOR S2 Spot Moving Heads have also been in use as effect lights at Frišno. The compact spotlights with a large zoom range were supplied by rental service provider AP Audio Live Slovenia, which offers the AZOR S2 as a new addition to its product line. Equipped like the big ones “We were looking for a compact and powerful spotlight with CMY colour mixing, wide zoom and quiet operation, and after some testing we finally chose the Cameo AZOR S2,” explains Miha Brencl, owner of AP Audio Live Slovenia. “The AZOR S2 is small, but has almost all the features we know from the ‘big ones’.” For “Frišno”, lighting designer Žan Pernat used the AZOR S2 as effect lights as well as backlights on the floor and at different heights above and in Every year, the Slovenian TV show “Frišno” chooses the song of the year. Around 100 years ago, the gigantic blower engines at Völklingen Ironworks pumped compressed air into the ironworks’ blast furnaces. Today, the flywheels rising from the ground are illuminated by spotlights and serve as a fascinating backdrop for exhibitions and other events lasting several months. In 1994, Völklingen Ironworks was added to the UNESCO list of World Cultural Heritage Sites and, with its numerous halls and open spaces, has developed into a European centre for art and industrial culture. In order to be able to flexibly illuminate the exhibitions in the Blower Hall, the supporting company invested in a modern lighting technology setup consisting of Cameo P2 FC LED profile spotlights and ZENIT W300 LED Wash Lights in 2023. “The Blower Hall is an extraordinary industrial hall with a very special atmosphere,” explains Udo Treimetten, who together with Mario Esch forms the management of Triacs Veranstaltungstechnik GmbH. The full-service provider from near Trier has acted as the Völklingen Ironworks’ technical partner for more than 20 years and was responsible for the lighting design and programming of the control system. “We needed spotlights that can be variably adapted to a wide range of requirements and also convince with high CRI values and Around 100 years ago, the gigantic blower engines at Völklingen Ironworks pumped compressed... At the end of August, the World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships took place in Valencia, Spain. As with most major sporting events, lighting designers have to meet two fundamentally different requirements with their lighting set-up: neutral illumination of the competition area that is bright enough for the athletes, spectators and TV cameras, and effective show lighting for the opening ceremony, medal ceremonies and entertainment features. At the Arena, built specially for this occasion at the Fira Valencia installations, the Spanish event technology service provider relied on the Cameo OPUS X Profile and EVOS W7 moving lights for this balancing act. “For the lighting design, we first looked at the technical requirements of the event,” explains Vicent Selma from Acustic Crom. “The spotlights had to be placed at a height of at least 14 metres above the competition area and had to comply with the regulations of the FIG [Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique] as well as the requirements of the RTVE [Spanish Broadcasting Corporation].” The FIG’s requirements stipulate that the 13 x 13 metre area must be illuminated with at least 1,500 lux without blinding the athletes when they look up when throwing and catching balls or hoops. GDTF – What is it? What is it for?
GDTF – What is it? What is it for? GDTF – What is it? What is it for? GDTF – What is it? What is it for? GDTF – What is it? What is it for?

GDTF is an abbreviation that stands for “General Device Type Format”. With that, you are actually just as smart as before. Therefore, let’s take another look and describe the current situation. When a new spotlight such as the Cameo S4 is launched, a fixture library must be written for each family of light control consoles to enable convenient operation. This file describes which DMX channel performs which function and how it is assigned in the respective console family. Specifically, it may determine that the PAN is assigned to the first encoder and the tilt to the second encoder. Most people agree on pan and tilt, but then come the many special functions and each console has its advantages and disadvantages due to its structure. As a result, a large number of “drivers” must be written for a new spotlight: one file for each console or console family, possibly a file for each spotlight mode, and this doesn’t even cover visualisation and planning applications. At Cameo, we usually write the “Fixture Library” for GMA2 and D4 and support console and software manufacturers in creating the files on their part. Let’s look into the future: What if there only had to be GDTF is an abbreviation that stands for “General Device Type Format”. With that, you are...
