A few days before Christmas, the annual “Great Advent Concert” took place in Dresden’s Rudolf Harbig Stadium. In front of nearly 20,000 spectators (and one million TV viewers), star tenor Rolando Villazón hosted a festive evening filled with international choirs, orchestras, and a variety of celebrity guest appearances. With project manager Alexander Zobel in charge, SAM Production GmbH was responsible for the open-air production’s technical staging, which used Cameo lights for most of the lighting. Following “2057” (2022) and “360” (2023), the Lithuanian pop superstar returned to Kaunas, Lithuania, at the end of 2024 to play another groundbreaking show in front of 10,000 spectators at the Žalgiris Arena. Once again on board: Baltic Production Service (as overall technical service provider), Marfa Lights (as stage, video and lighting design studio) and 350 Cameo lights. “A Donny Montell concert cannot be reduced to a standard formula – every show is unique and distinctive,” explains Andrius Stasiulis from Marfa Lights. “Donny only plays one big show every year. A majestic stage for a very special day: ‘The Grand Banqueting Suite’ in Bradford, England is primarily aimed at wedding parties from Asia and offers everything that characterises a magnificent wedding celebration: Plasterwork on walls and ceilings, neoclassical columns, gigantic chandeliers and sweeping staircases for the grand entrance. To ensure that the ‘wow’ factor is also emphasised acoustically, the team from ShropshireNet Limited opted for a multi-zone sound system based on audio solutions from LD Systems. Centralised audio and lighting control is provided by QUESTRA Design & Management Software. The Grand Banqueting Suite includes several areas spread over three floors: via the entrance hall on the ground floor, visitors enter the impressive main hall with a capacity of 1,500 people. This is where an essential element of every Asian wedding takes place: the bride & groom entrée, the joint entrance of the wedding couple. During 2024, the National Youth Music Theatre (NYMT) put on three musicals in London, and showcased actors who were all teenagers and young adults between the ages of 11 and 23 who were cast during extensive auditions. Three different British lighting designers were responsible for the lighting design – two of whom we have already introduced: Jamie Platt, lighting designer for “Our House”, and Bethany Gupwell, lighting designer for “Catastrophe Bay”. Aaron J. Dootson concludes our interview series with “Into the Woods” from the pen of legendary musical composer Stephen Sondheim. Aaron, what have been the highlights of your career as a lighting designer up until now? Aaron J. Dootson: Firstly, the Off West End Award 2023 for my work as lighting designer on the play “The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me” at New Wimbledon Studios, and secondly the Chester Mystery Plays in 2023 at the famous Chester Cathedral, which was also featured in the FOCUS magazine of the Association for Lighting Production and Design (ALPD). No club has caused more of a stir on Mallorca in the past year than AMØK. Opened in 2024, the massive project by former Pascha Group CEO, Oscar Ruiz del Rio, and British singer Recardo Patrick has quickly become the new party highlight on the island. In addition to club nights, AMØK offers all the right conditions for high-end corporate events, meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions (MICE). The Mallorcan AV integrator ShowCenter was responsible for the lighting technology in the club and exclusively used Cameo lights for this purpose. “The operators wanted a lighting technology set-up in the same league as the world’s best clubs,” recalls ShowCenter CEO Julio Caamaño. “After scoping the market with the Location Designer Pedro Mercé and carrying out extensive tests, it was clear to us that we would use Cameo for all light placements.” ShowCenter has been one of the largest AV installation service providers on Mallorca for many years and has a wealth of experience in the audiovisual outfitting of hotels, restaurants, bars, and clubs. A majestic stage for a very special day: ‘The Grand Banqueting Suite’ in Bradford, England is primarily aimed at wedding parties from Asia and offers everything that characterises a magnificent wedding celebration: Plasterwork on walls and ceilings, neoclassical columns, gigantic chandeliers and sweeping staircases for the grand entrance. To ensure that the ‘wow’ factor is also emphasised acoustically, the team from ShropshireNet Limited opted for a multi-zone sound system based on audio solutions from LD Systems. Centralised audio and lighting control is provided by QUESTRA Design & Management Software. The Grand Banqueting Suite includes several areas spread over three floors: via the entrance hall on the ground floor, visitors enter the impressive main hall with a capacity of 1,500 people. This is where an essential element of every Asian wedding takes place: the bride & groom entrée, the joint entrance of the wedding couple. During 2024, the National Youth Music Theatre (NYMT) put on three musicals in London, and showcased actors who were all teenagers and young adults between the ages of 11 and 23 who were cast during extensive auditions. Three different British lighting designers were responsible for the lighting design – two of whom we have already introduced: Jamie Platt, lighting designer for “Our House”, and Bethany Gupwell, lighting designer for “Catastrophe Bay”. Aaron J. Dootson concludes our interview series with “Into the Woods” from the pen of legendary musical composer Stephen Sondheim. Aaron, what have been the highlights of your career as a lighting designer up until now? Aaron J. Dootson: Firstly, the Off West End Award 2023 for my work as lighting designer on the play “The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me” at New Wimbledon Studios, and secondly the Chester Mystery Plays in 2023 at the famous Chester Cathedral, which was also featured in the FOCUS magazine of the Association for Lighting Production and Design (ALPD).
