On 10 June 2025, rock legend Bryan Adams made a stop in Málaga, Spain, as part of his current Roll With The Punches tour – and thrilled the audience of around 12,000 at the Auditorio Municipal Cortijo de Torres with an energetic open-air concert that left nothing to be desired. Between anthems such as “Summer of ’69”, “Run to You” and “(Everything I Do) I Do It for You”, the exceptional Canadian artist also presented songs from his new album – and relied on an understated but effective lighting design, for which the Andalusian event technology service provider Algo Suena used moving lights from Cameo, among others. “An artist like Bryan Adams doesn’t need an overloaded light show,” explains Serafín Sánchez, Managing Director of Algo Suena. “What counts is a clear, elegant design with the right dose of light power – and that’s exactly what the Cameo OPUS X4 PROFILE delivers.” Powerful and flexible – ideal for large stages The Cortijo de Torres municipal auditorium is one of the largest open-air venues in the south of Spain, with a stage roof spanning 55 metres, a 50-metre-wide stage and a total event area of more than 35,000 m². Moving heads or conventional profilers? This question is often raised when it comes to precise lighting design. In this final part of our series, we compare the two systems and shed light on when which option is worthwhile. How do moving head and static profile spotlights differ in terms of operation, precision, and workflow? When is a classic profile spotlight the better choice – and when is the flexibility of a moving head convincing? In addition, we’ll be looking at special applications, such as converting a profiler into a followspot. Whether it is for a theatre, trade fair, concert, or architectural lighting, here you can find out which system is best suited to your requirements. Moving head vers. Conventional Profile moving heads have long been found everywhere, even in theatres. Nevertheless, the demand for conventional LED profile spotlights remains strong. Why is the specialist (conventional profile spotlight) often preferred to the all-rounder (moving head profiler)? Let’s embark on a quest for answers. Of course, costs play a major role – why should you pay more for the additional functions of an all-rounder if you ultimately don’t use them? Bierkönig has been an institution on the Ballermann for decades – and with the opening of the new event area in spring 2025, the popular party location on Mallorca is now also setting new standards in terms of event technology. The new area combines rustic marquee flair with a state-of-the-art infrastructure and offers space for live shows, DJ sets, theme weeks and public screenings. The team from RheinlandAkustik VT was responsible for the customised lighting design, using over 300 Cameo lights. From Kölsch to a complete solution The collaboration between Bierkönig and RheinlandAkustik began in 2023 as part of “Kölsch Week”, during which Bierkönig dedicates itself to Cologne carnival. The successful organisation of this event developed into an ongoing partnership, which has now reached its climax with the expansion of the new area. “As head of technical planning, we were involved in the project at an early stage and were able to coordinate our vision closely with the customer,” explains Hendrik Brock, Managing Director of RheinlandAkustik. The conversion work, which began in 2024, extended into spring 2025 and required close coordination with the other trades involved from the electrical, decoration and metal construction sectors. Cylindrical brick buildings, industrial charm and versatile use: Gasklockorna in Gävle, Sweden, is one of the most impressive event venues in Scandinavia. Originally used as a gas holder for the city’s energy supply, the circular buildings now host cultural events, concerts, conferences and theatre performances. For the atmospheric yet functional illumination of the two main domes – Stora Gasklockan and Lilla Gasklockan – the city of Gävle, as its operator, relies on the lighting technology expertise of Center Stage AB and a modern setup of Cameo spotlights. Long-standing partnership Center Stage AB has been supporting Gasklockorna as a technical service provider, lessor, consultant and integrator since 2007. The latest commission comprised a permanently installed lighting set-up to enhance the ambient lighting as well as the targeted illumination of walls and stages. “The two domes offer many surfaces and structures that can be staged to great effect,” explains Robert Berglund from Center Stage. “It was crucial to choose the right beam angles in order to illuminate the high walls evenly without losing light or wasting energy unnecessarily.” For the Stora and Lilla gasometers, Center Stage opted for the DURA SPOT 100 Install spotlights, which impress with their lighting quality, compact dimensions Cylindrical brick buildings, industrial charm and versatile use: Gasklockorna in Gävle,... 1.2 million pounds – that’s how much the operators of Kyma invested to transform the former pub in Waterloo into a modern wine bar and tapas restaurant. In February 2025, the new catering location on the outskirts of Liverpool opened its doors. Greater Than Security Ltd was responsible for the lighting and audio planning and installation, equipping Kyma with a complete package from LD Systems and various Cameo lighting solutions. Kyma can seat up to 60 guests, with an additional 30 seats on the outdoor terrace. In addition to the normal catering service with background music, Kyma also has a DJ booth for lounge and party use at the weekend. “The client wanted something simple to use and flexible enough to work with different room setups,” explains Wael Hassan from Greater Than Security. “QUESTRA is the ideal platform for us, as it enables intuitive and centralised control and can be operated by employees without any prior technical knowledge.” Wael Hassan, Greater Than Security The Greater Than Security team relies on LD Systems DQOR 8 and DQOR 5 2-way installation loudspeakers for the sound system in the indoor and outdoor catering areas. Light is more than just brightness. It shapes spaces, attracts attention, and creates atmosphere. This third part of our series is all about the tools you can use to sculpt light in a targeted way: gobos, shutter blades, and irises. How can clear edges be set to precisely define stage boundaries? Which gobos are suitable for razor-sharp projections and which ones for atmospheric effects? And how can you flexibly control the light cone with an iris? We will provide you with practical tips for the professional use of these lighting tools – whether for theatre, events, or other lighting tasks. Imaging The imaging plane with its functions such as the gobo, shutter blade, or iris is the key component of a profile spotlight. Its quality and potential uses are shown here. The disadvantage with previous light sources such as halogen or discharge lamps was that they were placed in a reflector system with a base. This is often associated with differences in brightness caused by base shading; the filament arrangement in the case of halogen lamps; and manufacturing tolerances in the alignment of the optical system, which can frequently be remedied through adjustment options. It makes sense to use a conventional profiler with a tube if Moving heads or conventional profilers? This question is often raised when it comes to... Moving heads or conventional profilers?
